Football Daily | England and Sweden get into spot of bother with an unmissable shootout

England and Sweden Flop in Penalty Farce

England and Sweden had a chance to show their mettle in a penalty shootout, but both sides bottled it. Forget the fancy footwork and tactics; this was about nerve and execution, and neither team delivered.

England, with all their talent, couldn’t find the back of the net when it mattered. It’s the same old story: plenty of promise, but no end product. The players looked like they were trying to pass the ball into the net rather than smashing it. Where’s the killer instinct?

Sweden wasn’t any better. They had the opportunity to put England to the sword, but they fluffed their lines too. It’s not rocket science—hit the target, make the keeper work. Instead, they were as wasteful as England, lacking composure and conviction.

Defensively, both teams were shaky. They let the pressure get to them, and it showed. The mentality was all wrong. You can’t win games if you’re not solid at the back and clinical up front.

In the end, it was a shootout that neither side deserved to win. If you can’t handle the pressure, you shouldn’t be on the pitch. It’s as simple as that. England and Sweden need to take a long, hard look at themselves. This was a chance to step up, and they blew it.
